Another Rainy Day

This superbrella seems like the ultimate in rain and wind protection.  Most days in Eugene don't need something this intense but the principle of total protection seems so wonderful.  I'm not sure who among us would be able to pull something this huge and bulky off but it would be funny to see.

I'm in the middle of learning dreamweaver and Processing for my digital arts class.  Here is what I have so far.  The page isn't complete because we haven't been assigned all the projects for the class yet so some of this links just go to nothing.  If you click on the 12 o'clock and then any of the tan folder icons and then the applet folder you can see the work I've done in Processing so far.  If you're curious about the properties, take a look at the source code link at the bottom.

Come winter

This time of year in Oregon is kinda bittersweet. Beacuse I'm from the the bay area (which boasts the most moderate climate in the country) I've grown up without real seasons. Sure it would drop below 40 every blue moon and I thought this was terrible. I used to long for rain but I think I've had enough to last a lifetime and now every glimmer of sunshine feels like Christmas.


I see the tulips slowllllly peeking out of the ground as I walk through campus but knowing that I won't see sun for another 2+ months is discouraging. I'll never take another California winter for granted.


I've even given up trying to preserve my favorite boots; if I try not to get them wet I'll never be able to wear them.


Spring just feels like centuries away.

Crusading

I'm gonna take this opportunity talk about something different, something close to my heart.

The American Cancer Society is putting on its Relay For Life, a relay in which teams of people take turns running and walking around a track.  At least on team member is walking or running at all times to represent the idea that cancer never sleeps.

After having numerous relatives pass away from various types of cancer, I want to do something to help.  In addition to recognizing the love ones that I've lost, I hope to raise as much money as I can.  This money goes directly to the American Cancer Society and is used to fund research and treatment of diagnosed patients.

The American Cancer Society has made amazing breakthroughs and discoveries in determining causes and prevention methods of cancer and the money raised during this event will only further their success.

Cudi love part doux

Okay so maybe it's just my love of Kid Cudi that hooked me but the premise of HBO's new series How to Make it in America seems pretttty sick. Two kids are trying to make it in the New York Fashion scene. I'm interested in seeing HBO produce a show that is geared towards a younger audience. Maybe watch and find out for yourself as well? The series kicks off this Valentines day at 10pm.

Honestly this is some of the coolest jewelry I've seen in a long time.  The simple geometric shapes become super luxurious in his Spring/Summer 2010 collection.  The stuff may be a little out of our price ranges but it's not too ridiculous for the high quality and style.  I love the classy approach to an edgy look and that's what Eddie Borgo is famous for.

iCandy

Enough Apple product bashing. Here's a mouth watering accessory that puts two of my favorite things into one chocolatey-iphone combination.  Maybe impractical, but a sweet novelty none the less.

Here are my two cents on the matter: It seems like the developers at apple were banking on devoted followers when they created and released the iPad. (and really with the name?) Months and months of hype for a product that is in many ways inferior to the iPhone. No camera? With that beautiful display one would have thought this would be a standard feature. A maximum of 64 gigs? That's half the size of the largest iPod. No new standard application? Yeah the applications have been redesigned to fit the large screen format of the new product but besides that I see no real improvements. With enough updates of the iPad will be left with exactly what we already have. With prices starting at around 500 (this doesn't include 3g which costs 130) we are all better off which our iPod touch or iPhones. Am I missing something? Please let me know if there's something amazing about this gadget that I'm not seeing. My advice? Wait it out for the next iPhone which I'm guessing will be out sometime this summer.

Open your eyes

There is nothing but inspiration all over this campus. I stumbled on this (I'm assuming) student installation on campus after lecture. No explanation or artist statement let me really appreciate it for what is it.


The simple paper hangings and foldings are lit perfectly and completely transform the room. Next time you're on campus walk into Lawrence down the ramp and turn right.

Simple Curves

I'm learning a completely new language. It's called processing and I feel for the most part that it's over my head. I'm learning the bare bones and even that puzzles me but hopefully with some time and practice ill be fluent in the more complex parts. A class assignment is to create a stationary sketch using the simplest elements. Here is what I have so far in both code and physical form; it's not too hard to figure it out because this sketch is SO simple so see if you can. I'll share the final sketch when I finish. Eek!
