Eddie Borgo Jewelry
Honestly this is some of the coolest jewelry I've seen in a long time. The simple geometric shapes become super luxurious in his Spring/Summer 2010 collection. The stuff may be a little out of our price ranges but it's not too ridiculous for the high quality and style. I love the classy approach to an edgy look and that's what Eddie Borgo is famous for.

Silly and simple and inspiring. This Melbourne, Australia artist does such a good job of expressing emotional subtleties in his sketches and wall paste-ups. See this and much more at drab.art.
iCandy
Enough Apple product bashing. Here's a mouth watering accessory that puts two of my favorite things into one chocolatey-iphone combination. Maybe impractical, but a sweet novelty none the less.

Live Deliberately
"The world is meaningless, there is no God or gods, there are no morals, the universe is not moving inexorably towards any higher purpose. All meaning is man-made, so make your own, and make it well. Do not treat life as a way to pass the time until you die.
Do not try to find yourself, you must make yourself.Choose what you want to find meaningful and live, create, love, hate, cry, destroy, fight and die for it. Do not let your life and your values and you actions slip easily into any mold, other that that which you create for yourself, and say with conviction, "This is who I make myself".
Remember that to fight meaninglessness is futile, but fight anyway, in spite of and because of its futility.
The world may be empty of meaning, but it is a blank canvas on which to paint meanings of your own. Live deliberately. You are free.

There is nothing but inspiration all over this campus. I stumbled on this (I'm assuming) student installation on campus after lecture. No explanation or artist statement let me really appreciate it for what is it.

The simple paper hangings and foldings are lit perfectly and completely transform the room. Next time you're on campus walk into Lawrence down the ramp and turn right.

No Return Ticket
Lately I've been trying to drag out my youth as long as possible. My teen years are over in 4 months I'm really trying to take advantage of all things fun and youthful while I still can. Here's a taste of what's been in my head for the past few weeks.

Honestly, what impresses me most is the quality of this video, check it out on the original site by clicking the link under the video. This will provide you with the full effect. Yum.

This will suffice as my mini vacation from my cluttered life right now. Matthew Bates takes us across Europe in his cityscapes album. A nice vacation when I can't get a real one.
egads

This is me trying to study. There is too much going on to be able to focus on just one thing. It's so difficult when the World [Wide Web] is at my fingertips. My attention span is the same as a goldfish's and I have a feeling that in the direction I'm heading it will only get worse. AH! any suggestions from the audience? Know you're out there.

Thank you Stephen Dreyfuss for the blog content. Here are some printed advertisements from the 1930's. Each one stands out in its own way. It's safe to say things have changed. Take a look.

Simple Curves
I'm learning a completely new language. It's called processing and I feel for the most part that it's over my head. I'm learning the bare bones and even that puzzles me but hopefully with some time and practice ill be fluent in the more complex parts. A class assignment is to create a stationary sketch using the simplest elements. Here is what I have so far in both code and physical form; it's not too hard to figure it out because this sketch is SO simple so see if you can. I'll share the final sketch when I finish. Eek!

[Dis]Connected
So what's the deal with communication these days? The connections that the laptop, internet, and cell phone have all created have ultimately led to the most impressive disconnect. 1/5 of couples meet online and I'm sure this number will only grow. Personal relationships become difficult when we know every last detail of our friends and families lives before they tell us. What did people do before computers? It's wild to think about and to be honest I don't think I wanna go there.
Anyways
Here's what I see in our dismal future. We meet online, but we stay online. No need for physical presence (at least for the most part) with holograms that can experience the senses. This sounds unreasonable to you? Let's see if you feel the same in 10 years. Scary stuff.

I'm really all about the local love and my obsession with t-shirts shines through with this one. I believe in representing where you come from and while it's hard to accurately represent an entire city in one image, I think these shirts do a particularly good job.

4fifteen's golden gate bridge logo is simple and gets the message across clearly.
The Blonde Collective's Ann Arbor shirt. Shout out to Michigan :) I had to get this one for myself.
Near and dear to my heart is Upper Playground. With origins in wonderful bay area, it's undeniable that the left coast is the best coast.
Who doesn't love a good NYC knockoff right? Freegum's has this an a handful of other great tee's. The best part? It's reversible.
Los Angeles has a lot to offer don't get me wrong, but I think this shows that clean air and relaxed driving are NOT in full supply. Howard's House of Fine Art paints the picture in this one.

Nonviolence is the answer to the crucial political and moral questions of our time: the need for man to overcome oppression and violence without resorting to oppression and violence. Man must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love.Martin Luther King, Jr., Nobel Prize acceptance speech, Stockholm, Sweden, December 11, 1964.
who says you can't buy happiness?
Talk about an innovative promo tool. What a creative and memorable way to promote the product. I'm sure the students at this school will never go near a Pepsi machine after this. Where's my happiness machine?!
transparencies
Even though these remind me of a touristy/gift shop item, the detail that these leaf carvings exude is amazing. These are manually carved without machines or painting of any kind and custom orders can be made if you want your dog's portrait on a leaf. No, really.

These make my mouth water. The newly released Supra Spring 2010 Skytop is available in lots of different colors but the purple takes the cake. Too bad these would just be caked in mud if ever worn in Eugene.

MUSH
My eyeballs feel like they are going to fall out. I've been looking at one computer screen or another for like 7 hours today and I think it's too much for me to handle. Throughout all of my classes today I couldn't see anything being projected on the board/wall/whatever and it was driving me crazy. Maybe time for some new glasses. That being said I saw this image and thought of my current state of mind: fuzz. Check out more of Victor Zhang's photos on his photoblog. There are some amazing ones of the east bay and bay area.

Also I've updated the site a little and will continue to do so. Check out my favorite blogs and videos I've made in the top right corner.

this is not a plug
As you might be aware I am currently interning for O'Bon , this really great eco-friendly school and office supply company. The products are SO fun and original and even though this might seem like a promo piece, I genuinely believe in what the company is doing. I am working on a few new projects and was sharpening some of the O'bon pencils earlier today and was so excited to see the images below.
The pencils are made out of 100% newspaper. This means no trees or wood are cut down to make these. It also means that sharpening your pencil might just be the highlight of your day.
The products are beautiful. Check out the website if you dare.

Finally!

Here is it. My final submission for my self portrait. I could play in photoshop and illustrator for hours but there comes a point in time where I just have to stop focus on one image. After a few tweaks from the previous versions this is what I came up with.
I spare the explanation of the image in hopes that it's somewhat self explanatory. Wish me luck!

It's just a matter of time

I should be out right now :/ Instead I'm working on my 10,000th self portrait (well not really but it feels like it) for this application . I'm so tired of ME; I want a new subject but I have to crank out the perfect one. Here's the one I like the most but I'm sure I will come up with tons more before I make one I feel great about.
